Bishramganj Police have recovered a stolen CNG auto-rickshaw from a rubber plantation near the new petrol pump area along the National Highway late Saturday night.
According to police sources, the recovered vehicle bears registration number TR-01M-3805. The auto was stolen from in front of Kherengbar Hospital in Khumulung.
Police suspect that the thieves had left the vehicle inside the rubber plantation and were attempting to remove its battery when their activities were noticed by a police team from Bishramganj Police Station. As the police reached the spot, the accused fled taking advantage of the darkness. Despite a chase, no one could be apprehended.
The recovered auto was later brought to Bishramganj Police Station. On Sunday morning, the owner, Shakti Debbarma, a resident of Birendranagar under Jirania subdivision, reached the police station and identified the vehicle.
Speaking about the incident, the owner said that his niece’s wife was admitted to Kherengbar Hospital for delivery. On Saturday, he had gone to the hospital to deliver food in his CNG auto. After parking the vehicle outside the hospital, he went inside for a few minutes, but upon returning, he found the auto missing. He subsequently informed the police.
Bishramganj Police have started an investigation and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the theft.
