Tension briefly flared in the Lembutuli area of Kamalasagar on Sunday after an enforcement drive against the use of black window films (sun-control films) on vehicles led to a confrontation between Bishalgarh Police and auto-rickshaw drivers.
According to local sources, police personnel from Bishalgarh Police Station conducted a traffic enforcement drive in Lembutuli targeting vehicles allegedly using prohibited black window films. During the operation, several auto-rickshaws were stopped, and fines were imposed on drivers found violating the traffic regulations.
The action triggered protests from a section of the auto-rickshaw drivers, who alleged that the enforcement was discriminatory. They argued that the law should be applied uniformly to all categories of vehicles instead of targeting only auto-rickshaws.
The protesting drivers claimed that many larger vehicles, including some belonging to government departments and the police, also use black window films. They questioned why similar action was not taken against those vehicles and demanded equal enforcement of the law across the board.
"The traffic rules should be enforced without discrimination. If the same law is applied equally to everyone, it will strengthen public confidence in the legal system," one of the protesting drivers said.
The incident led to a brief period of tension in the area. However, police managed to bring the situation under control, and normalcy was restored shortly afterwards.
