Police personnel accused of performing duty under influence of alcohol at Mata Bari; Probe Demanded

AGARTALA:

Allegations that a police personnel was performing duty under the influence of alcohol at the revered Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati district, have triggered widespread concern, with the incident drawing significant attention on social media.

According to the allegations, a group of youths visited the temple on Saturday night when the on-duty police personnel allegedly misbehaved with them and asked them to leave the temple premises without any apparent reason. The youths claimed that the police personnel appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The youths further alleged that they recorded a video of the incident on their mobile phones, which was later circulated on social media. They claimed the footage raises serious questions about the conduct of the police personnel while on duty.

The incident has sparked resentment among a section of devotees and local residents, who described the allegations as deeply concerning, particularly because the officer was deployed at one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas.

They have demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter to establish the facts. They also urged the authorities to initiate appropriate departmental and legal action against the concerned police personnel if the allegations are found to be true.

The administration is yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Attention is now focused on the outcome of the investigation and the action that may be taken based on its findings.
