Members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) in Tripura gather and queue inside the outpatient area of Jampui Hill PHC, Vanghmun, voluntarily donating blood in commemoration of the 90th Foundation Day of the popular and influential organisation on Monday.
Reports received from Mr Vanlalthlanga, who is the Secretary of Tripura Group YMA, having its Headquarters at Behliangchhip, Jampui Hill, confirm that in total 112 units of blood are donated by 126 donors.
“Today's blood donation drive has been possible and becomes a reality through the collaborative actions of Medical Officer In-Charge of Jampui PHC, officers and staff of Dharmanagar Blood Bank, other volunteers, and of course our own members who willingly and selflessly turn up in numbers to donate and serve,” he adds, and thanks them too.
The Young Mizo Association (YMA) is the largest non‑political, non‑profit and secular organisation of the Mizo people, focusing on preserving heritage, serving the community, and upholding Christian ethics. It was founded in 15 June 1935 by Welsh Christian missionaries and local Mizo leaders.
Headquartered in Aizawl, Mizoram, the organisation encompasses 5 sub‑headquarters, over 700 branches, and over 400,000 members across Mizoram and neighbouring states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura. In Tripura alone, there are total 19 branches, ten of those in Jampui Hill and nine in Unokoti district in and around Darchawi town.
This year's YMA Day fell on a Sunday, so volunteer actions take place on Saturday, June 14 and Monday, June 16. In addition to the blood donation drive, other activities in observance of the Day include community service activities like cleanliness drives, tree planting, building homes for the needy, and charitable donations.
