In a significant drug bust, the Government Railway Police (GRP), in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), apprehended four residents of Bihar at Agartala Railway Station during the early hours of Monday. Authorities seized 37.615 kilograms of dry ganja, packed in 35 packets and concealed in four bags.
Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP, Tapas Das, stated that the accused had planned to transport the contraband to Delhi by train.
“During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that they intended to smuggle the consignment to Delhi using the railway route,” Das said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bipin Kumar (23) and Gautam Kumar (15) from Katihar district, Manish Kumar Mandal (28) from Bhagalpur district, and Durga Devi (40) from Purnia district, Bihar.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station.
According to police sources, further investigation is underway, and additional arrests may follow. Officials estimate that the seized ganja could fetch approximately ₹7.5 lakh in the Delhi market.
