Tripura Police seize Yaba tablets worth Rs 4 Crore, one arrested

AGARTALA:

In a major operation against drug trafficking, Tripura Police on Sunday seized 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 4 crore from a truck at the Churaibari check post in North Tripura district, near the Assam border.

North District Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai informed that acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a small truck entering Tripura and discovered the contraband hidden in eight separate packets.

“This significant seizure is part of our ongoing drive under the vision of ‘Nasha Mukti Tripura’ as laid out by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, and in line with instructions from the Director General of Police (DGP) to curb the drug menace,” SP Rai said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Sanjay Sahani (24), a resident of Tripura, was arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved in the illicit drug trade.
