After a series of protests leading to paralysed life in Kanchanpur subdivision only recently, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today paid visit to the subdivision, which has been, perhaps, considered to be one of the most affected areas as far as anti-CAA protests are concerned in the state.
Amidst the tensed climate and frequent peace meetings being held in order to bring daily life in the usual rhythm in Kanchanpur, many believe, this visit assumes great significance and would help building confidence among the locals.
Barmaram Reang, a resident of Hatai village under the Kanchanchara subdivision, had very little knowledge of the Chief Minister’s visit. As the winter plunged into the entire region and the frequent protests broke out all over his area, he had decided to enjoy his afternoon meal with his family unknown of the fact that it would turn into a memorable day of his life.
But, suddenly, his eyes blossomed with unknown enthusiasm when Deb escorted with security personnel entered his house and interacted with him and his family.
Similar was the experience at the house of Run Reang, where the chief minister took mid-day meal. According to Reang it was a life time achievement for him. “Very few people have the fate to feed someone like him” Reang told media.
Nonetheless, the mega outreach programme of surprise visit to the remote parts of the state had been widely appreciated by the people from different walks of life. According to political analysts, these visits will help to bridge the gap between people and administration.
“No chief minister earlier tried to connect with people in such a way. These visits in the remote parts of the state will create a view among the people residing in the remote parts that the government reaching out to its voters in a fashion they witnessed never” a veteran political analyst told this newsman.
The Chief Minister, specifically, visited two ADC villages—Kanchanchara ADC village and Gachiram Para ADC village under the sub-division. He personally took interest and listened to Parsenbati Reang, Bimanjoy Reang, Tangbatiu Reang, Budherung Reang and many more and assured them to solve the issues they had been facing since long. The pertinent officials were directed instantly to take their issued onto consideration. He also exchanged views with the local residents at Anandabzar police station.
In his short and precise interaction with media after the visit, the chief minister stressed on peace and harmony between communities. “Kanchapur is an area of mixed population. The cultural harmony between communities is observable and this should be maintained. Peace and harmony are essential conditions of development. Unless the peace is maintained, development of any area cannot be ensured” the Chief Minister said before leaving for Agartala. He also visited the violence stricken areas of the sun-division and assured the people of all kind of support from the part of government. He also spoke to the violence affected shop owners and assured every help from the part of administration.
