Tripura records 54.47% turnout recorded till 1 PM in 2nd phase polling to East

AGARTALA:

The second phase of polling for the East Tripura Parliamentary constituency is underway amid tight security coverage, while 54.47% voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm on Friday. Voting commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm. Tripura recorded the highest turnout at 36.42 per cent till 11 am.

According to the official of the state election commission the voting which began from Friday morning was largely peaceful and no untoward incident was reported till 1 pm.

Minister Santana Chakma, Tinku Roy, BJP candidate Kriti Devi Singh Debbarman, CPI(M) MLA Rajendra Reang, Congress MLA Birjit Sinha among others had cast their vote on Friday.

A total of 13,96,761 voters in East will decide the fate of nine candidates in the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls. Although the BJP candidate Kriti Devi Singh Debbarman is contesting directly against the I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate and former CPI(M) MLA Rajendra Reang.
