In attempt to give Agartala City a fresh and pleasing view similar to any other metro city of the country the state government has taken a unique step to beautify the river banks of River Howrah through Riverfront development project.
A five member team comprising officials from Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and AFD—a French company that will give soft loan to the ministry to complete the work visited the state today. The team, this morning, inspected two separate stretches of River Howrah—the upstream stretch from steel bridge to the DWS water intake plant and the second stretch from Battala Bridge to Dashamighat, during their field visit.
Earlier, the delegation was presented a preparatory sketch of the project by the officials of Agartala Smart City Mission. Meanwhile, in the evening, another meeting was convened to discuss over the issues came out on the first inspection visit. The delegation will once again pay a visit tomorrow and they will fly back in the evening, a highly placed source in the Smart City Mission confirmed.
On the other hand, speaking to this correspondent today, Agartala Municipal Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav said, like the river front projects taken in River Sabarmati and River Gomati, the new government has included the plan of Riverfront development under Agartala Smart City Mission. Under this project, the stretch of river that flows by the city will be beautified with organic plantation, sitting arrangements and parking blocs.
Further adding on the recent developments, he said, the project cost is approximately finalized at 99 Crore. The central government will pay 51 crore and rest of the money will be spent by the state government. The finance department of the state has already passed the project and if all falls in the right direction within 6 to 9 months the DPR and other prior paper works will be completed.
Speaking about the visit of the high power team, he said, the team that came to the state today will be guiding us technically. A bigger delegation of officials will also visit the state within few months to have meeting with the Smart City Mission regarding the project. The primary presentation from the part of Agartala Smart City has been already presented before the delegation today.
