The leader of opposition and I.N.D.I.A bloc convenor of the Tripura unit Jitendra Choudhury on Wednesday took a dig at the ruling BJP and said, “If BJP under the leadership of Narendra Modi returns to power in 2024, there will be no more elections to be held in the country and elections will be turned into a selection.”
Interacting with the media in a meet-the-press here at Agartala Press Club on Wednesday, Choudhury castigated the BJP in Tripura for not conducting the village council election which remained pending.
“As the BJP government in Tripura has not initiated village council elections, all the financial operations, transfer of benefits and management of the funds are taking place in those village committee that are equivalent to Panchayat. BJP’s organisational unit – Mandal is now looking after the functioning of village committee. Instead of the elected representatives, a section of selective leaders are running the show," Choudhury told reporters.
He said, “In this juncture I see these elections as the last elections. If Modi becomes the Prime Minister once again, this Mandal raaj will gain further momentum and all democratic institutions will be dismantled. Selective representatives would start assuming public offices.”
