In a tragic incident, a 38 years old middle-aged man committed suicide by slashing his own throat with a sharp cutting weapon on Thursday morning in Tripura’s Unakoti district.
The incident took place at Kailasahar, Chantail area after the man identified as Ramakanta Mitra, a driver by profession, allegedly slashed his own throat by a sharp cutting weapon in one of his neighbour’s house on Thursday morning.
The elder brother of the deceased Swapan Mitra informed that Ramakanta was staying in Mizoram to drive vehicles and on Wednesday evening his co driver dropped Ramakanta in his house at Chantail. Ramakanta Mitra was suffering from some mental illness for a long time, following which the family members locked him in a room.
Later Ramakanta managed to escape from the room by breaking the door and rushed to his neighbour’s house, where he slashed his own throat and lied on the ground, he told reporters.
He was later rushed to the district hospital, where the attending doctors declared him brought dead. On the other hand, the police of Kailasahar police station initiated a probe into the case.
