The opposition CPI(M) state secretary and leader of opposition Jitendra Choudhury on Sunday alleged of BLO’s participation in election rally of the ruling BJP, and sought the intervention of the state election commission.
Writing a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of the state commission on Sunday, Jiten stated, “It seems that some of the BLOs are over-enthusiastic to openly work for the ruling BJP.”
“In one image, Sri Prasanta Singharoy, BLO of Booth No. 36 of 9-Banamalipur AC is seen in a BJP election campaign and in the other image Sri Partha Debroy, BLO of booth No. 34 of 13-Pratapgarh (SC) constituency is seen in other BJP campaign programme,” the letter reads.
He further stated, “While service conduct rule for the government employees prohibits any service holder even to expose their political leaning, some of the designated BLOs have taken this designation as a license to openly work for the ruling BJP. It is unfortunate that, you have to conduct the election with such elements.”
The CPI(M) leader demanded the CEO to take stringent measure against the BLOs found in the BJP's political campaign according to the Service Conduct Rule and issue a general reminder to the BLOs about the statutory guideline of their duties as BLO.
