JEE Main Exam Pattern: Major changes to keep in mind
JEE Mains and Advanced examination are conducted for the admission in undergraduate engineering courses in the top-notch engineering institutes of the country such as NITs, IITs, IIITs and GFITs in India.
JEE Mains examination which was supposed to be held in the month of April will now be conducted between 18th - 23rd July due to the outbreak of COVID- 19 pandemic and the lockdown in the country.
For those who are going to appear in JEE Mains 2020 papers should note these special changes introduced by NTA in terms of a number of questions, marking scheme, marking procedure and tie- resolving issues. LATEST CHANGES IN THE JEE MAIN 2020 PATTERN
JEE Mains paper will be conducted in three papers from the year 2020, i.e., Paper 1 for Engineering (B.Tech/ B.E.), Paper 2 for Architecture (B.Arch.) and Paper 3 for Planning (B.Planning). Some new changes have been introduced in JEE Main 2020 pattern as declared by the exam authority are given below:
- Earlier, the exam was conducted once in a year. But, from 2020 onwards, the JEE Mains paper is going to be held twice in a year, once in the month of January and secondly, in the month of April.
- Students can appear in both the sessions of the exam if they want. However, the score of the session with the highest score will be accepted by the authority.
- NTA has introduced a new paper, i.e., Paper 3. From now onwards, a separate paper will be conducted for the B. Planning course, i.e., Paper 3, unlike previous years.
- NTA has also made some changes in JEE Main 2020 pattern with the number of questions for all the papers.
- For B.Tech and B.Arch, the number of questions has been reduced from 75 and 77, respectively. And for B. Planning Paper, the number of questions have been increased to 100 questions.
- In the past years, there were no numerical based questions in JEE Mains paper. But from now onwards, the Numerical Based questions will be asked along with Multiple Type Questions.
- The negative marking will be applied only to the MCQs. There will be no negative marking for the numerical value-based questions.
- B.E. and B.Tech. papers will comprise a total of 300 marks while B.Arch and B.Plan paper will comprise a total of 400 marks each.
- There is always a chance of a tie in the scorecard. NTA will be using percentile upto 7 decimals to resolve ties.
- Candidates older in age will be ranked higher if the above rule fails.
