Frequent road mishaps have become a daily phenomenon for the people of Jalai village located in between Kailshahar and Kumarghat highway. The main problem for daily commuters emerged in the face of the dilapidated iron bridge connecting the highway.
For Kailshahar, which is the district headquarters of the Unakoti district, this bridge is the only medium of connectivity with the rest of the state. The hurdles of the commuters deepened when the bridge collapsed suddenly two months ago bringing the vehicular activities between the two sub-division to a standstill.
The civil administration took prompt action and built a makeshift bridge in the sidelines with an assurance of restructuring the fallen structure within 10 days. But, months have passed; no development has been seen yet.
However, the alleged utter negligence of the concerned authorities has forced heavy-weight vehicles to pass through the narrow makeshift bridge. On several occasions, the desired authorities have been asked but no development seen forthcoming. Reportedly, the villagers are contemplating to take drastic steps in order to make a strong statement against the administration.
