As the country gears up to tackle fresh Covid wave concerns amid infection surge in China, a survey revealed on Thursday that over six in 10 Indians (64 per cent) are reluctant to take the Covid booster dose and rising cases of heart attacks in young people have largely contributed to this hesitancy.
With eight Covid patients recovering in the last 24 hours on Wednesday, the total number of recoveries has gone to 19,80,555. The number of patients being treated in home isolation stands at 19.
A total of 2,642 new tests -- 1501 RT-PCR and 1141 Rapid Antigen -- were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 405,700,41 so far while 470 vaccines were administered -- 42 first doses, 131 second doses and 307 booster doses.
Flights and rail services to the city of Sanya were cancelled after several hundred Covid-19 infections were discovered on the island, which is commonly referred to as "China's Hawaii", dpa news agency quoted the state media as saying on Sunday.
The death toll rose to 924 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, it said. Tripura now has 2,310 active patients, and most of them are undergoing home quarantine.
In Tripura, the positivity rate increased from 0.93 per cent on July 1 to 12.16 per cent. Total 112 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours, thus, taking the total number of active cases to 2,366 in the state.
In the last 24 hours, India reported 21,411 new Covid-19 cases, a decline against the 21,880 infections registered the previous day, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Also in the same period, there were 67 new fatalities which took the nationwide Covid death toll to 5,25,997.
Chief Minister tweeted: "I've been tested Covid-19 positive today. I am absolutely fit & fine with no symptoms. I humbly request all those who've come in contact with me to take necessary precautions."
India reported 15,528 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, which is a decline from the previous day's count of 16,935, said the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. In the same period, the country has reported 25 more Covid deaths, taking the nationwide toll to 5,25,785.
