COVID surge continued in Tripura, with the state’s case count crossed the 200-mark on Thursday. The total number of active cases in the state has reached 584.
The government already made wearing of masks mandatory from July 12 last in view of the surging cases of COVID.
As per the latest update, more 214 Covid positive cases have been detected in the past 24 hours out of 1993 samples tested till Thursday morning. The positivity rate is 10.47 per cent.
West Tripura district recorded 141 new positive cases followed by 17 in Sepahijala, 2 in Khowai, 18 in Gomati, 11 in South, 8 in Dhalai, 10 in Unakoti and 7 cases in North Tripura.
The State Task Force of Covid-19 on Monday has expressed concern over the sudden spike in positive cases in the state and decided to go for aggressive enforcement against non-wearing or improper wearing of masks, especially in public places, including educational institutions, markets, and government offices.
Meanwhile, the Sadar district administration on Thursday asked all the market committees to ensure Covid appropriate behaviour.
SDM Ashim Saha held a meeting with All Tripura Merchant Association and all the bazar committees and asked to maintain wearing of masks, social distancing and sanitization.
People in large numbers gather market places every day. Hence, it is important to follow Covid protocols in the markets, the SDM told reporters and emphasized on displaying 'No Entry Without Mask' in the entrance of every shopping mall in the city. He also stressed on spreading awareness through miking in the market areas.
