In view of the spike in COVID 19 cases in the state, the government is preparing the deck to fight the deadly virus with the state health department taking up slew of measures to bring a control over the spread of the disease across the state.
Addressing a press conference on Monday evening in the chamber of the CMO of West Tripura district, the Programme Officer Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme & Joint Director (Plan) of the Health & FW Department – Dr. Deep Kr Debbarma said that since July 4 the at least 131 COVID positive cases were detected, out of which 8 persons were detected to have travel history.
Dr. Debbarma stressed on abiding by the COVID-19 guidelines and said that wearing of masks will be mandated from July 12 next mainly in the educational institutions, places of public gathering and others. “For the time being penalties will not be imposed as this would not be practical enough before intensifying awareness among the public,” he told reporters.
He said, “With time-to-time communications with the concerned authorities, we are closely monitoring the entry points of the state including airport, railway stations and others and based on the situation during the next seven days, we shall take the next course of action.”
“We have taken all measures for mass testing across the state from Tuesday onwards and as per the guidelines of the Central government, we shall send the samples to Pune laboratory,” he said, adding that during the last 24 hours, a total of 22 persons were detected with the COVID positive.
Tripura witnessed a rise in Covid-19 cases and recorded 36 infections in a single day Sunday, the highest in July, as the positivity rate climbed to 6.53 per cent with no report of any death in the month.
The rise in the Covid-19 cases started on July 5 with 13 infections reported from one in the previous two days. Later, seven cases were reported on July 6 followed by 15 the next day, six on July 8 and 32 the next day. The positivity rate has spiked to 6.53 per cent from 0.93 per cent on July 1.
