As the first phase of the Lok Sabha polling for West Tripura constituency ends here in Tripura on Thursday, the state now heads for its second phase poll slated to be held on April 18 in East Tripura ST constituency amidst tight security in around the state, especially a strict vigilance across the bordering areas of the state. Over 81 per cent turnout recorded in first phase polling.
As part of the second phase polling, the postal ballot voting has began from today and shall continue till 1 PM on Saturday.
In the backdrop of the first phase polling, the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Taranikant said, "Almost all the political parties including the ruling party has filed complaint with the commission. We will look into it after thorough scrutinization of web castings from all the polling stations."
After the end of the poll on Thursday last, the Congress and CPI-M has accused the ruling BJP of vote rigging, whereas the BJP spokesperson Dr. Ashok Sinha termed this polling has ended in free and fare manner apart from some incidents reported from various polling booths, where many BJP workers were attacked and left injured.
