In a tricky episode triggered by fraudster tele-callers a number of high profile personalities of the state faced banking frauds since last week. Reportedly, the falsified callers try to convince the customers being identified as bankers and acquire their required information.
In a recent incident, Speaker Rebati Mohan Das was victimized by such an iniquitous caller the day before yesterday. Speaking to the newsman, son of Mr. Das informed that a caller fluent in both Bengali and English called us and asked for various details including the ATM CVV code, ATM number and other relevant information related to the SBI bank account of Mr. Das.
Soon after the facts were surrendered to the caller he asked for an OTP (One Time Password), beeped just a moment after. Accordingly, in the second beep of the phone it was noticed that a huge amount was transferred to some other accounts still could not be traced, added Kishore Kumar Das, the son.
It is later learnt that the first phone was received by the speaker himself and due to his hectic official schedule he suggested the caller to ring his son for further details. And the entire misconduct took place, informed a sources very close to the Speaker.
Meanwhile, Police sources informed that a case has been registered in NCC police station and two accounts where the money was transmitted through “online transactions” were detected as of privatized banks i.e. one in Yes Bank and other one is of ICICI Bank but police is still to trace out the owners of the accounts.
Moreover, in a similar note, senior government advocate Nitai Chowdhury was also targeted of such a forgery. On Thursday last following akin steps a handsome amount of rupees 1 lakh 50 thousand was withdrawn from his account.
