A three judge bench of Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph yesterday issued notices to the Union of India, Election Commission of India and the state of Tripura after hearing a petition filed by Tripura People’s Front.
The writ petition which was filed seeking implementation of NRC, detection and deportation of illegally intruded people from neighboring Bangladesh taking the merger agreement in account essentially, The bench also tagged the NRC related matter to a similar case filed from Assam slated to be heard on October 23 next.
While briefing the media persons in front of the court, advocate Rameswar Prasad Paul said, the petitioners Tripura People’s Front President Patal Kanya Jamatia, Sarmila Murasngh and Sunanta Kumar Jamatia observed that the situation of Tripura is bitter in comparison to the neighboring dominion Assam due to the forceful entry of throughout the bordering areas which is gradually burdened that state.
The bench today heard the petition and asked the relevant authorities list out their replies, he informed. On a relative note, Law Secretary Data Mohan Tripura informed that the Court has issued a notice and sought replies from the departments but the notice is still not received by us, the standing committee had informed about the matter and the notice is asked to be sent very shortly, while asked about the notice.
It is worthy to be mentioned here, soon after drawn up of NRC in Assam, the indigenous political outfits repeatedly asked for such an arrangement in the state including IPFT, the ally in the ruling government.
