In a distressing incident on Monday morning, a wild elephant wreaked havoc at the marriage house of Pradeep Bhowmik in the Krishnapur area, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The enraged elephant broke down the gate of the marriage house, demolished decorations, and ruthlessly attacked domestic animals, resulting in the tragic loss of poultry and cows.
This incident underscores a long-standing issue faced by the residents of several villages in the Krishnapur assembly area, who have been enduring wild elephant attacks for many years. Elephant gangs have been known to break into houses at different times, causing fear and devastation among the local populace.
Following the latest rampage, which occurred around four o'clock in the morning on Monday, authorities from the Teliamura Forest Department swiftly responded to the scene after receiving distressing reports. However, locals lamented that this attack was not an isolated incident, but rather a recurring nightmare inflicted upon them by the same group of elephants.
Expressing their frustration with the lack of a lasting solution, residents of the affected area took to the streets, blocking roads and demanding immediate action from authorities. Subsequently, officials including the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer, DCM of Sub-Divisional Ruler's Office, and Tehsil Dar, rushed to the scene to address the concerns of the community.
In response to the outcry, forest department officials assured residents that personnel would be deployed for nightly patrols to prevent future incidents. Additionally, assurances were made regarding compensation for the damages incurred during the recent rampage.
The affected family, who had been eagerly preparing for a wedding ceremony, now finds themselves grappling with the aftermath of the devastating attack. Despite assurances from authorities, residents remain wary of recurring incidents and are calling for a comprehensive and permanent solution to mitigate the threat posed by wild elephant attacks in the area.
