The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a ₹476 crore budget for the financial year 2025–26, aiming to drive comprehensive development across the city. The budget, which carries a projected deficit of ₹72.02 lakh, was formally presented by AMC Mayor and local MLA Dipak Majumder on April 23 and received the Corporation’s nod on Monday.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Majumder said the budget prioritizes critical civic issues including improvement of drainage systems, road repairs, enhanced street lighting, pond rejuvenation, and the installation of open gyms throughout Agartala.
“We conducted thorough discussions with all Corporators and the AMC Commissioner before finalizing the budget. It has been widely appreciated as a pro-people initiative that lays the groundwork for Agartala’s transformation,” said Majumder.
He underlined that the proposed investments align with a broader vision to make Agartala a cleaner and congestion-free city, with a particular emphasis on essential services like clean drinking water and efficient drainage infrastructure.
To implement the proposed projects, AMC will coordinate closely with the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Urban Development Department.
“This budget embodies the corruption-free governance and forward-thinking leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha. Our focus is on delivering visible results and resolving the day-to-day challenges of urban life,” the Mayor added.
The AMC expects the approved budget to significantly enhance urban infrastructure and elevate the overall quality of life for Agartala’s residents.
