Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday inaugurated the state-level observance of Road Safety Month-2024 here in a function at Agartala Swami Vivekananda Ground and said that the government here is working to ensure zero death rates in road accidents.
Dr Saha, who also holds the home portfolio on Tuesday pitched for more awareness generation on road safety among the people of this state, especially among the youths and students.
“The state traffic department is using some advanced machineries and tools to control the over speeding vehicles and tackle road accidents as a whole,” Dr Saha said, adding that moving in line with the central government guidelines, the government here in Tripura is mulling to set up rest houses along the national highways for the drivers, who are on board for long journeys.
He said, “To address the injured persons in any road accidents, government will deploy ambulance in the accident-prone areas across the state and in addition to this close monitoring system will be installed in those accident-prone areas, so that the injured persons can be rushed to the hospitals or trauma centers with immediate effect.”
Sushant Chaudhury, Minister of Transport, Amitabh Ranjan, DGP of Tripura Police & other dignitaries were present in the program.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also flagged off some traffic rules and vehicles to increase safety and awareness levels amongst the public keeping in view the rapid increase in road accidents in state and national data.
