To create “language harmony” and develop a conductive environment for learning Indian languages, Tripura along with the rest of the nation on Monday observed ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas’.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has inaugurated the state-level function here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and laid a floral tribute to the portrait of Subramania Bharati, a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry who penned songs to kindle patriotism during the Independence movement.
Addressing the gathering the Chief Minister also said that the Central Government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of famous Tamil poet Subramaniam Bharati on December 11 every year from this year as Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas.
“Even though there are linguistic and cultural differences among the people of different states of the country, we have one identity that we are Indians. Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat can be formed through cultural unity as well as linguistic unity,” he said.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on building a foundation of unity through this linguistic diversity. Also, the Prime Minister is encouraging the countrymen to show respect to all languages, he added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the state Education Department Ravel Hemendra Kumar said that as part of Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas, various programs have been organized in various schools, colleges and educational institutions across the country on September 28. Various programs have been organized at the district and state level to celebrate Indian Language Day in the state as well, he said.
