A heavy storm accompanied with thunderstorms lashed the South district of Tripura late on Tuesday night inundating croplands, houses, and other private establishments. The incident has left one dead after a mud wall collapsed on him when he was asleep at home in the early hours of Wednesday at Sonia Chari village under Belonia sub-division of Tripura's South District.
The mud-wall collapsed on him due to the heavy rainfall which caused a flood in the Sub-division since last night. The deceased was identified as Narayan Bhowmik (20).
After the incident, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased's family.
Similarly, two more children were also injured due to a similar incident at the Jharjharia area under the Belonia sub-division. Police sources said that they had been hospitalized.
Chief Minister Deb directed the local MLA and district officials to visit the residence of the affected families and extend all possible assistance to them.
Meanwhile, in his tweeter handle, Deb said, “I have been constantly in touch with local authorities and monitoring the situation. I assure everyone, no stones will be unturned in providing any kind of assistance to the individuals affected by the storm CMO is committed to provide all necessary help and support.”
