The state food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday launched the official procurement of 40000 MT paddies from the farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 21.83 per kg.
The paddy procurement has begun from Bairagibazar Nat Mandir area of Sonamura subdivision in Sepahijala district of the state. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has launched the procurement process and claimed that the procurement of paddy at MSP has enhanced the livelihood of the farmers of the state.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said, “The present government is committed to enhance the agriculture sector of the state through doubling the farmers' income. The farmers of Tripura who were deprived during the last 25 years of rule of the previous Left front government are now being benefited at large due to the initiative of the paddy procurement.”
Paddy will be purchased from 49 paddy purchasing centers in the state and a target has been set to complete the process of purchasing paddy by January 31, 2024.
