A housewife, identified as Moumita Bhattacharjee of Melagarh today reportedly set herself on fire which led 90% of her body charred of injuries, allegedly victim of dowry prejudice. Depressed Moumita driven by frequent domestic clashes set herself on blaze, spattering Kerosene in presence of her uncle in-law and mother in-law in the house. She was admitted to Melagarh hospital soon after the incident and later referred to GBP hospital following her critical health conditions.
According to sources, Moumita, a girl from Amarpur get married to Swapan Laskar of Melagarh, a driver by profession two and a half year back. But soon after the marriage the relationship took a twisted turn towards violence and ready-to-go quarrel frequently.
Later on, though Moumita become a mother, the harsh experiences of the conjugal life continued for her, according to the locals. The locals also alleged that Shivani Laskar, mother in law of Moumita is also a complicit partner in the exploitation made upon us. Some sources close to her father’s residence suggested that in several occasions her father Dhananjoy Bhattacharjee gave money to his son-in law but could help it to rescue her daughter from the grab of such greedy in-laws.
Police sources informed, though no one complained on that particular issue, a Suo motto has been registered to nail down the truth.
