The managing director of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) KK Pathak on Thursday visited the Maitre Setu to review the construction work in Sabroom.
The Rs 128.69 crores Maitre Setu which connects South Tripura with Ramgarh of Bangladesh and provides access to the Chittagong seaport is all expected to be opened by this month. Its construction was started in 2017 but it got delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The bridge has been taken over by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the project execution authority which will recheck the safety standard of the work.
The bridge will be dedicated to the nation after the confirmation of schedule from the Prime Ministers (PM) of India and Bangladesh, Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hassina respectively.
On Thursday the MD of NHIDCL along with his officials, MLA of Subroom Sankar Roy, Agartala-Akhaura ICP manager Debashish Nandi, South district magistrate Debapriya Bardhan visited the bridge and took a note on the construction work of the bridge.
Later, speaking to reporters, South district magistrate Debapriya Bardhan said, “MD of NHIDCL came here to visit the Maitri Bridge and took a note on the construction work. The work of the bridge is almost complete only very few minor works are left. We are expecting by one week everything will be completed”.
He however said that the date of the inauguration of the bridge is not yet fixed.
