The ominous drug trade in the Bogafa eco-park has become a serious concern for the locals prompting them to raise questions about the forest authorities managing the eco-park. The eco-park which is considered to be the only place of recreation for the people of a vast area now turned into a safe haven for the drug peddlers who use this place to penetrate among the youth.
Some pictures taken inside the park indicated that drug addicts regularly do drugs inside the place. Used syringes, emptied containers of heroin, brown sugar, and cigarette buds are found at every corner. But, intriguingly, despite repeated complaints to the forest department including forest ranger Suman Bhowmik and SDFO Jaymalya Bhattachrjee no steps have been taken yet.
Speaking on the issue, one of the locals alleged, “it has become a regular affair. The administration must take actions against such issues otherwise; it will be impossible for people like us to live here”.
In the meantime, pictures also revealed the precarious condition of the installed gadgets. Cradles broken, water pipes dislocated, bushes engulfing the beautiful flowers, and destroying the scenic are some of the problems that seemed to have detached people from the only park under the Santirbazar municipal area.
