Former Chief Minister and West Tripura parliamentary candidate for Lok Sabha election Biplab Kumar Deb submitted his nomination paper with the Returning Officer of the district with an eye to take on the I.N.D.I.A bloc.
Deb was accompanied by the former Haryana Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar, incumbent Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Dev Barman and other leaders and workers of both the BJP and TIPRA Motha.
A giant rally of the BJP, which moved across the capital town of Agartala accompanied Deb as he filed his nomination paper.
Addressing the party gathering prior to the nomination filing, Haryana Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar, incumbent Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini claimed that the BJP and the NDA will mark a new record in the nation by winning over 400 seats in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Dev Burman, who also addressed the party gathering in support of Biplab Kumar Deb, claimed that the BJP-TIPRA Motha candidates in both the parliamentary seats will win by record margins and raise the issue of Tripura in Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, the I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate and Congress state president Ashish Kumar Saha on Thursday filed his nomination paper. A large number of Congress and CPI (M) workers and leaders walked in a rally which accompanied Saha.
Senior Congress leaders and MLAs Birajit Sinha, Gopal Roy, Badruzzoman, Shahjahan Mia, Dipak Chakraborty, AICC observer and Secretary Tzaritha Laiphlang and others joined the rally.
Senior CPI (M) leaders including state party secretary Jiten Chaudhury, CITU general secretary and former MP Sankar Prasad Dutta, former councillor of AMC Phulon Bhattacharjee, Dukli block leader Narayan Rudrapaul and a host of other leaders and workers of the party took part in the procession which rent the town.
Congress candidate and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury addressed the gathering and claimed that the I.N.D.I.A bloc candidates will win the Lok Sabha election provided the poll is free and fair. They appealed to the election commission to ensure adequate security arrangements for a free and fair campaign for the polls.
