An on-duty police officer was left grievously injured after a group of people led by two sons of a local BJP leader attacked him for snapping the sound system connection late on Monday night. Three more TSR Jawans also sustained injuries during the scuffle broke out at the residence of BJP leader Kiran Biswas at Sukanta Nagar drop gate area.
According to sources, the police ASI Swapan Sen along with the TSR Jawans rushed to the residence of Kiran Biswas after their neighbors complained of high noise of sound boxes. It was the immersion day of Kali Puja observed at Biswas’s residence.
Biswas’s two sons Kaushik and Kishore prevented the police officer from discharging his duties. Soon a heated altercation began between Sen and two sons of Biswas and at a point of time, Swapan attempted to snap the electricity connection of the sound box. Aggrieved by the attempt, Koushik and Kishore along with his cronies attacked Sen and three more TSR Jawans who went along him.
ASI Sen sustained serious injuries in his head and was later referred to Gomati District hospital located for better treatment. Other injured persons were under treatment at Belonia hospital.
Soon after the incident, an FIR was lodged in the Belonia police station and four persons including the wives of Kaushik and Kishore were arrested under non-bailable sections. Prime accused, Kaushik Biswas and Kishore Biswas were still absconding.
The arrested persons would be produced before the Court on Wednesday. As per the last information gathered till filling this report, the police is continuously conducting raids to trace the prime accused.
