The joint show of strength of the Tripura Indigenous Progressive Alliance (TIPRA) and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) ahead of the ensuing poll to TTAADC has brought the speculation run high over the existing alliance of the BJP in Tripura.
The joint show of strength through a public rally scheduled earlier is held on Wednesday at Khumulwng – the headquarters of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman who called for a greater unity among the indigenous to contest the poll said, “We shall not compromise anything lesser than the Greater Tipraland. We will now meet the central leaderships to place our demand for the welfare of our people.”
“There is no use of speaking with the state leaderships as the centre is the ultimate decision maker. We have seen how the voice of indigenous people in Tripura was suppressed for the last 70 years,” said Pradyot while addressing the public rally.
Meanwhile, reacting sharp to the statement of MP for East Tripura constituency – Rebati Tripura over ‘Greater Tipraland’ – Pradyot today said, “The leader who speaks about the community has voted for Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the parliament betraying the people of the state.”
However, the state tribal welfare minister of the BJP led coalition government also the IPFT state general secretary – Mevar Kumar Jamatia today thanked TIPRA chairman Pradyot for his tireless efforts in bringing the indigenous leaders on a single platform and said, “We have been suppressed and used for vote bank politics, but no one heard our voices. The time has changed, and as we speak in one voice, the leaders will have to listen to our demands.”
