Two militants belonging to the banned NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) organisation surrendered with arms and ammunition before the police on April 15 in Dharmanagar of North Tripura district.
According to the police the cadres have been identified as Joseph Jamatia and Uttam Kishore Jamatia and they deposit 3 factory-made pistols and ammunition.
They surrendered before the North Tripura SP in presence of DIG (North Range) Lalhminga Darlong on Thursday, the police said.
Uttam Kishore Jamatia hails from Udaipur in the Gomati district and had joined the NLFT way back in 2001 and underwent training at the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh.
“He (Uttam Kishore Jamatia) took part in many operations of the NLFT, including the killing of 17 CRPF jawans in an ambush at Chechingcharra in South Tripura district and an ambush on two buses of CRPF, besides many kidnapping cases,” the police said in a statement.
The other surrendered NLFT rebel – Joseph Jamatia is a self-styled sergeant of the NLFT’s D Umthai faction.
A team of ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal’ of the Union home ministry had visited Tripura earlier in February to record evidence against the NLFT and ATTF. The home ministry had imposed a fresh ban of five years on the two outfits on October 3, 2018, for their violent and subversive activities.
