Ambassa Police have achieved a major success in the ongoing anti-drug drive in Tripura after recovering a large quantity of narcotic substances from a luxury vehicle during a routine naka checking operation.
Police seized 349 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup and around 1 kg of dry ganja from the vehicle and arrested two youths from Bihar in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the seizure was made at the Betbagan naka point under Ambassa Police Station during a regular vehicle checking drive. When a vehicle bearing registration number AS01GK2248 was intercepted on suspicion, police conducted a thorough search and recovered the banned substances hidden inside the vehicle.
The arrested persons have been identified as Satyendra Rai and Ravi Kumar, both residents of Bihar.
During the search, police also recovered two additional number plates belonging to vehicles registered in Bihar from inside the car, raising suspicion about a possible wider network. Police have started an investigation to ascertain the purpose of carrying the additional number plates and their possible links.
Police suspect that the seized narcotic substances were being transported for illegal trafficking. The arrested duo is being questioned to find out the source of the contraband and its intended destination.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused will be produced before the court on Monday.
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation to identify other persons who may be involved in the alleged drug trafficking network.
