In a move aimed at promoting women's economic empowerment and self-employment, the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, distributed 100 sewing machines to women beneficiaries who successfully completed a tailoring training programme under the Mukhya Mantri Dakshata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP).
The distribution programme was held for trainees from the North Zone (Ward No. 5) of the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Along with the sewing machines, the beneficiaries were also provided training certificates and offer letters for employment in private organisations.
The women had undergone a 50-day, 300-hour Sewing Machine Tailor Training Programme designed to equip them with market-oriented skills. During the training period, each participant received a stipend of ₹2,000 along with refreshment support.
Officials said the initiative is intended to encourage self-employment, entrepreneurship and improve employment prospects for women by providing them with practical skills and essential work tools.
The programme forms part of a larger skill development drive covering all four zones of the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Altogether, 380 women have completed the tailoring training, of whom 200 have already received sewing machine toolkits in the North and South Zones. Distribution of the remaining 180 sewing machines to beneficiaries in the Central and East Zones is expected shortly.
The Directorate of Skill Development said the initiative reflects the Tripura Government's focus on demand-driven skill development programmes aimed at enhancing employability and promoting financial independence among women. The department also acknowledged the cooperation of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, training partners, instructors and officials for the successful implementation of the programme, reiterating its commitment to building a skilled, self-reliant and empowered workforce across the state.
