The state power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday attended the meeting called by the Union Power Minister R K Singh with ministers and power secretaries of the North-East at Delhi and discussed the Tripura government’s target of generating 500 MW renewable energy by 2030.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat on Friday evening, the minister said, “To meet the target of 500 MW renewable energy by 2030, there is a requirement of storage of at least 2000 MW solar power energy. In line with this, we proposed the Centre for installing rooftop solar plates in all government establishments including educational institutions and in every household in the state.” He said that the Centre has agreed to the proposal of the Tripura government.
The Union government has set a target to ensure renewable energy by 2070 across the country and for this the union government is mulling to bring a project costing Rs. 20000 crore for the entire North East region of the country, out of which Tripura government is expected to receive Rs. 1200-Rs.1400 crore, he told reporters.
He said that the Union Minister’s meeting at Delhi mainly discussed various proposals and steps taken by the states to generate renewable energy in the North Eastern region.
During the meeting, Nath highlighted the plans of the government for the construction of solar parks, floating solar power plants, hydro pump storage, use of solar electricity for irrigation of agricultural land, construction of solar villages, solar cities, small hydro projects, use of electric vehicles.
