Tripura Police doing commendable job in reducing crime rate in state: CM Dr Manik Saha

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that the police has been given free hand to work independently without any interference in their work so as to maintain the law and order situation in the state.

Dr Saha said this here in a programme of distribution of letter of appointment to at least 975 newly selected police constables. 643 male constables and 332 female constables received the letter of appointment.

Addressing the gathering here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Tuesday, Dr Saha claimed that Tripura police has been doing commendable job in reducing overall crime rate in the state. He said, “Tripura Police is continuously working to maintain law and order in the state. As a result, Tripura has come up to the third place from the lowest among the 28 states in the country in terms of overall crime. Tripura is ranked eighth from the lowest among the 28 states in terms of crime against women and crime against bodies. Tripura is ranked lowest among the 28 states in terms of property crimes. Overall crime has decreased by 19.4 percent in 2024 compared to 2023.”

“In addition, the overall crime rate has decreased by another 10 percent in the first 4 months of 2025 compared to 2024. The Election Commission of India has praised the Tripura Police and administrative system for conducting the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections smoothly,” Dr Saha said.

Meanwhile, Dr Saha on Tuesday said 17,554 government posts of different categories were filled up through a transparent appointment policy during the past seven years.

“A total of 17,554 posts of different categories were filled up till March 2025 from 2018 in the government workforce. Besides, as many as 4,499 vacant posts were also absorbed from February 5 to April 13, 2025,” Dr Saha said.

Dr Saha said, “In line with the policy of 33 percent reservation for women in government job appointments, 332 women have been given appointment letters today. As a result, women will be self-reliant and economically strong.”

He said that the state government has already approved the recruitment of 916 more police constables. The recruitment process of 218 sub-inspectors approved by the government will also begin soon. Moreover, the process of enlisting 6067 special executives is underway, he said.
