The Congress party in Tripura demanded for a second rail line and establishment of a railway division in the state of Tripura to boost connectivity.
Announcing to go for Guwahati Abhiyan on May 7 next, the Pradesh Congress president Birajit Sinha on Wednesday said that a party delegation will meet the general manager of NF railway on May 8 at Maligaon to press for the demand of the party.
"Our demand is to establish a second rail line connecting every district headquarter and sub-division of the state and also to establish a railway division in Tripura," he told reporters here in a press conference at the party headquarter on Wednesday.
He said that the second rail line touching Sabroom in South Tripura district would further enhance the connectivity with neighbouring Bangladesh considering the state's trade potential with the Bangladesh nation. Sinha however welcomed the proposal of establishing a second rail line in Tripura by the BJP government and said, "I welcome the statement of state transport minister which he made in a press conference recently to propose for the second rail line."
He further informed that the party will also soon go for Delhi Abhiyan to press for the party's demand for operation of Kamalpur airport and establish a second airport at Kailasahar.
"Our party representatives would soon draw the attention of the Civil Aviation Ministry towards our demand for resumption of the two oldest airports of Tripura in Kailasahar and Kamalpur," he said, adding that earlier during the time of UPA government the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sing had approved the Kailasahar airport in the 100 approved airports in the country.
He said, "The state government was supposed to work on land acquisition for providing land to the centre for establishing the airport at Kailasahar, but the then Left front government in Tripura failed to do that. This time we believe that the present government would work on it to further enhance the connectivity of the state."
