Tension gripped at Harincherra village of Dhalai Tripura district on Tuesday after the villagers expressed concern over setting up of refugee camps for the ‘Brus’ allegedly on the jhum land of the villagers.
According to the villagers, the decision of setting up of the refugee camps is taken without prior intimation to the local villagers. The agitated villagers alleged that the concerned administration has decided to set up the camps on the jhum farming land of the existing 300 tribes which perhaps shall cause hurdles for the villagers to live their daily livelihood as a major section of the tribes in the villager are dependent on the traditional jhum cultivation.
However, opposition the decision of setting up of refugee camp at Harincherra village under Ambassa block the agitated villagers blocked the Ambasa-Gandachhara road and threatened to launch massive movement against the concerned administration.
Alarmed by the agitation a large police force including DCM rushed to the spot and assured them of solving the issue and following this the agitated villagers withdrew their protest and cleared off the road. A 10-member delegation of the villagers is expected to meet the sub-divisional officers on the issue.
