Smuggling racket stimulates in Gandacherra

AGARTALA:

Smuggling of wooden logs and edible fish in Gandacherra subdivision had triggered a sense of antipathy among the people, though police has successfully conducted several attempts to check the increasing illegitimate affair but due to alleged involvement of few officials of the forest and fishery department, the possible outcomes could not be exonerated as should be.

The falsified acquaintance between the smugglers and officials came to light publicly when fishery department officials did not even lodged an FIR against the seized vehicle carrying fishes caught red handed from Gandacherra-Amarpur highway on the August 01 last.

According to sources, there is a SPO drop gate installed at Kalajhari to impose a check on such illegal activities but unofficially a concealed corridor to carry out illicit deals has been set up by the smugglers.

SDPO V. Darlong, who had taken charge few months back had expressed his concern saying, “every now and then vehicles carrying fish and wooden logs is being seized moreover, few raids earlier also resulted seizure of Brown Sugar and from police level such raids will be conducted frequently”.
