The former BJP national spokesperson and currently the chairman of the Indian Tourism department Sambit Patra on Wednesday lashed out at the previous Central governments for deliberately ignoring the northeast region and said, “The North-East which we call as NE, under the Congress regime was Not Existent (NE).”
Sambit Patra was addressing an event of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas at Ambassa in Dhalai Tripura district on Wednesday.
“Switching over the Congress regime’s Not Existent, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the two consecutive term of his government has given a new definition to the North-East as New Engine,” he said.
Patra, a popular face of the saffron party said, “At a time when the Congress government before 2013 was neglecting the North east region of the country, the PM Modi gave priority to the northeast region. He envisioned this region as ‘New Engine’ of growth for India. He continued slamming the previous government and said, “Modi has visited the region 56 times after assuming charge as prime minister. On the other hand, former PM Manmohan Singh was elected to Rajya Sabha from the northeast but rarely bothered to visit this region.”
Meanwhile, he castigated the opposition CPI-M party here in Tripura and said, “The previous government of the communist party in Tripura never paid respect to the Maharajas and tried to distort the history of Tripura, whereas the BJP government soon after coming to power in the state named the Agartala airport after the Maharaja of Tripura.”
“This is for the first time in the state of Tripura under the leadership of PM Modi, Padma Shri award is given to the Janjatis. And not only in Tripura this is for the first time in the history of this country that PM Modi has proposed the name of Draupadi Murmu, who hails from Janjati community of Orissa state for the topmost post like President of India,” he said.
He however underlined the welfare schemes of the Tripura government for the Janjatis in the state and said, “I thank the Tripura government for providing patta land for the tea garden workers. I also thank the government for including Darlong community in the tribes of the state. Series of works are done including sanctioning of Rs. 30 crore for building hospitals in the ADCs in Tripura and the resettlement of the Brus in Tripura itself cites an exceptional achievement with the joint effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura government.”
