Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today directed police personnel to take more precautionary measures against the drugs menace and said police officers have to work on zero tolerance policy in matters of law and order.
CM Dr Saha today said this while inaugurating the Khowai Women's Police Station today.
“The government is working with the aim of reducing the crime rate to zero in the state. Police personnel must also work with that goal in mind. The state government is also working for the self-empowerment of women and for which already 33 per cent seats have been reserved for women in recruitment”, said CM.
The women's police station was inaugurated in the presence of DGP Amitabh Ranjan and senior police officers of the Khowai distict.
Inaugurating the Women's Police Station, the Chief Minister also said that the law and order system has improved significantly in the entire state. Along with that, the conviction rate has also increased. And this has been possible only through proper coordination of PP, APPs with investigating police officers.
“Many times it is seen that if the charge sheet is not presented properly in the court, the accused get bail. This matter should be looked into very seriously by the investigating officers. Police officers have to work on zero tolerance policy in matters of law and order. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Tripura ranks very low in terms of crime. The state ranks fifth from the bottom among the country's 28 states”, claimed CM.
The Chief Minister said that Tripura is at a significant place in the country against drugs.
“The government is also working on zero-tolerance policy against drugs. For this, police personnel should take more precautionary measures because drugs have to be eradicated from the root”, he said.
He further informed that within a few days, 1,000 constables and more than 6,000 special executive positions will be appointed in the Police Department.
In his welcome speech DGP Amitabh Ranjan said that the main aim of inaugurating this police station is to prevent crime related to women.
Chief Whip and MLA Kalyani Roy, Additional Director General of Police Saurabh Tripathi, District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma, DIG GK Rao, Superintendent of Police Rati Ranjan Debnath and others were present as distinguished guests on the occasion.
