PM Modi emphasising on development of North East region: Union MoS Dr. L. Murugan

The Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan on Friday claimed that the Northeastern states including the states of Tripura is moving in parallel with the rest of the country in terms of development.

 

Addressing press conference at Belonia Circuit House on Friday noon, the Union MoS said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special importance to the development of the North Eastern region. As a result, the states of the North Eastern region are progressing at par with the rest of the country in terms of development."

 

He said that since Narendra Modi assumed the office of Prime Minister in 2014, there has been a huge improvement in road, rail and air services in the states of the North Eastern region. To accelerate the development of this region, Union Ministers are regularly visiting 7 states, he said, adding that during their visits, the ministers are reviewing the work of various projects including the Prime Minister's Flagship Programme, agriculture, health, education, rural development.

 

Dr. Murugan said that a project of cashew nut cultivation has been taken up for the development of rural areas in South District under the 'One District, One Project programme'. Besides, extensive steps have been taken for the development of bamboo, rubber and tea industries in the state. He said that the Central and State Governments are working tirelessly to increase income and create employment.

 

He said, "Kisan Samman Nidhi, Fasal Bima Yojana, Kisan Health Card, etc. projects are showing the direction to the farmers. The Central Government is working for the empowerment of women by forming SHGs. As a result, lakhpati didis are being created all over the country and their number is increasing gradually."
