The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Friday claimed that if everything falls on the right track then the Agartala-Chittagong flight service will start from the first week of June this year.
The Minister on Friday inaugurated a new Cargo Complex here at Agartala MBB airport for resumption of cargo services from the airport and said that with the resumption of this cargo service, the businessmen of this state will be benefited at large.
Rs. 17 crore rupees have been spent on the construction of a newly constructed cargo building covering at least 1272 square meters. It is expected that a total of 40,150 metric tons of goods will be transported through it every year, which is about 10 times more than before.
“Local products produced in our state can be transported to national and international markets through this integrated model cargo service from the Agartala MBB airport. This service will play an important role in the economic development of our state through seamless transportation of goods. Local traders will be benefited at large due to this service,” he said.
Referring to the flight service from Agartala MBB airport connecting foreign countries, the minister said, “The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given utmost priority in enhancing connectivity in North-East and accordingly the Agartala MBB airport has been made international standard to get Tripura connected with the major cities of the country and foreign countries as well.”
“If everything goes well, the Agartala-Chittagong international flight service will start from the first week of June. Later, direct flight services from Agartala to Singapore, Bangkok, etc. will also be initiated,” he said, adding that the connectivity of the state has seen a major transformation.
He also said that a new bronze statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram would be installed at the new airport as it was not possible to shift the Maharaja's statue from the old airport premises.
