Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma inaugurated nine days long traditional Chariot festival at Melaghar today which is popular as biggest Rather Mela in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp at permanent Government stage at the ground of Jagannath Bari within a pleasant environment in the evening. Among distinguished guests MLA Biplab Ghosh, Subhash Chandra Das, ADM, SDM, Officer of ICA and Melaghar Municipal Council were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering of devotees Deputy Chief Minister said, “Melaghar has occupied a special place in the map of Tripura where biggest Chariot festival of North East organized every year. Besides, National lake and Water Palace carrying memories of Royal rules of the state are situated here. Other temples are also situated surrounding Melaghar subdivision. In this connection a tourist spot should be set up at Melaghar. Thinking about Tourism of Tripura is not possible without Melaghar, he added.
