Govt committed for the welfare and development of tea garden worker: Mayor

AGARTALA:

The Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, announced today that the state government has launched several initiatives dedicated to the progress and well-being of tea garden workers who have long faced neglect.

To promote the tea industry in the region, an open cross-country race was organized in Agartala. The event, jointly orchestrated by Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited and the Tea Board of India, witnessed 76 participants in the boys' 5 km race and 47 participants in the girls' 3 km race. Mayor Majumder inaugurated the race at Birchandra State Central Library premises in the morning.

Mayor Majumder, during the event, underscored the state's illustrious tradition in the tea industry. He pointed out that since the new government assumed office in 2018, significant efforts have been directed towards the development of various departments and corporations. An initiative such as expanding the public distribution system to ensure chapata reaches every household and the establishment of the ‘Tripureshwari Brand’ for Tripura tea has been implemented.

Highlighting the commitment to enhance the conditions of tea industry workers, the Mayor spoke about schemes focusing on wage increments, housing construction, and the elevation of smart social standards.

Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including Santosh Saha, former chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited, and Samir Ranjan Ghosh, Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited, who delivered the welcome speech.

The event was attended by TTDC Directors Salil Roy Chowdhury and Swaraj Sarkar, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Satyabrata Nath, TTDC Managing Director Manik Lal Das, and Tripura Sports Council Joint Secretary Swapan Saha.

Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the race winners. The participants securing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions in both categories received Rs 3500, Rs 2500, Rs 2000, and Rs 1500, respectively. Additionally, six more players from each category were presented with Rs 1000 each.
