The Bamutia and Hejamara block areas under Mohanpur subdivision in West Tripura district have been left reeling after severe storms and hailstorms over the past two days caused widespread destruction to homes, power infrastructure, and agricultural land.
Today,. West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar conducted an on-ground inspection of various affected areas in the Bamutia block. He was accompanied by Bamutia Block Development Officer (BDO) Amitabh Bhattacharya, senior officials from multiple departments, and local public representatives.
Speaking to the media during the inspection, Dr. Kumar confirmed that many families across the Mohanpur subdivision had been affected by the intense storm activity. “There has been extensive damage to electrical lines, particularly in the Hejamara and Bamutia block areas,” he said.
In response to the crisis, four relief camps were set up in the Hejamara block area, where 991 people took shelter at the peak of the storm. Many of them have since returned to their homes as the weather situation has stabilized.
Dr. Kumar assured that the district administration has already begun assessing the extent of the damage. “The government will provide necessary assistance to families whose agricultural lands were damaged and who have lost cattle due to the storm,” he added.
Restoration work is currently underway, with departments working in coordination to restore power lines and extend support to affected residents. The administration has also promised expedited compensation to help families resume normal life.
