Lockdown, no social pension, inability to work and distance with his two sons; for 55-years old Motilal Ghosh, it is the hardest of the patch of his life. Once known to be one of the best sweet manufacturers of Ambassa, with the span of time, left seized in a wheelchair and his old drab hut.
His wife also not in a state to help him. With his ailing life partner, Motilal was passing his days at the mercy of the almighty. But, the lockdown seemed to have ended all his possibilities of earning. On Wednesday, he came out in search of some help, but the ill-fated man-made to return home bare handed.
The elderly Motilal met a severe accident three years back. Complexities of the accident left him at the mercy of wheels. But, still, he is searching a way out to get him enlisted to the social pension scheme for the specially impaired persons. His two sons, now well earning with a government job and a running shop respectively, but none of them are concerned about the hurdles their father was undergoing.
Speaking to this reporter, Motilal said, “My family was running at the mercy of some people who assist me every month. But, in this lockdown situation, there is no one who can turn up for my help. In fact, it is also will be an inhuman demand if I show up to them seeking help”.
Braving the scorching heat, the specially impaired man on Wednesday knocked the doors of the local civic body after a 1.5-kilometer journey on the wheelchair. But, to his utter disappointment, none of the officials including the SDM showed any mercy on him. He was asked to approach the Social Welfare Department for his help.
The act of the SDM, however, raised many questions. Locals asked when everyone was being provided help some way or the other as to why the unfortunate man had been denied any help. Some of the locals also said that the government must strictly order his sons to take up the responsibility of their well being.
However, disappointed Motilal returned home barehanded.
