Just after the Election Commission of India (ECI) based on the report of the state election department has declared for re-poll in six centers of the state and declared this to be held on February 26, the CPI-M state secretary also central committee member Bijan Dhar on Friday lashed out at the state election department over the alleged irregularities during the actual poll held on February 18 last.
Dhar questioned the impartiality of the election official here and viewed, “The re-poll has been declared in those centers where the left front have clear winning prospects.”
“Despite deploying adequate number of polling and specialised officials furing the polling on February 18, the voters had to suffer from inordinate delay while waiting to cast their ballots till midnight,” adding Dhar alleged, “This has simply happened due to the apathy of the state election department.”
He said, “During the all party meeting with the district election officers (DEO) or DMs, no political parties has raised the issue of re-polling.” Despite this the Election Commission of India based on ‘apathy’ report of the state election department has declared for re-polling in six centers.”
“We had demanded repoll in three booths under Takarjala assembly constituencies citing specific grounds like prevention of voters from coming to the booths and driving out of our polling agents but this has not yet been granted,” he said.
The ECI has issued a letter declaring polls conducted on February 18th in six centers of Tripura, falling under constituencies namely Sonamura, Dhanpur, Teliamura, Sabroom, Ampinagar and Kadamtala-Kurti, as void under sub-section 2 of section 58 of Representation of People Act, 1951.
Further, ECI has observed that in four centers, the total number of electors does not tally with the total number of votes resulting in a difference of one vote. ECI has directed that the result of the election will not be declared where the winning margin is one only.
