There was no shortage of cheer and festive spirit in the celebration of Christmas, which was planned in a low-key manner here because of COVID 19 pandemic this year.
Churches were decorated with lights, candles, Christmas trees, and bells while people from all walks of life attended the midnight mass by singing carols and prayers at churches across the state. People from the Christian community mingled at all churches and sang carols, hymns and exchanged gifts on the occasion.
At Mariamnagar, the first Christian settlement in once kingly state Tripura, the mass prayed to the Lord Jesus to wipe out the sufferings of people hit by COVID 19 pandemic. Devotees heard the priest speak inside the cathedral despite the night very foggy and people including a good number of youths turned out for the day. The area was echoing with the carol sang in the church right from the evening praising the Lord and people celebrated the day.
However, in absence of the annual fair at Mariamnagar, revelers preferred to check in the city-based restaurants, which were illuminated and decorated with stars, to join the celebration.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Deb conveyed his warm greetings on the occasion of Christmas. "Hope this festive season will bring good luck and good health for everyone. Merry Christmas", Deb tweeted.
“Wishing everyone a blessed Merry Christmas. May this day bring us joy and good hopes. May your Christmas be graced with love, peace, health, and happiness", the Chief Minister wrote on his social networking site.
On the other hand, Agartalites woke up to another foggy morning with the capital recording minimum temperature at 12.4 degree Celsius today, according to India Meteorological Department.
However, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degree Celsius. The weather department in its forecast said cold wave conditions would prevail at isolated places over Tripura. The MeT office has also forecast foggy morning for tomorrow. The humidity oscillated between 94 per cent and 82 per cent. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday are likely to be 26 degrees and 11 degrees Celsius.
